The UK originally planned to raise the family visa income threshold from £29,000 to £38,700 by early 2025. However, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has announced that to balance family life and economic benefits, the threshold will remain at £29,000 until a comprehensive review of the family visa policy is completed.
Previously, the income requirement was increased from £18,600 to £29,000. All new applicants and children applying after April 11, 2024, need to meet the £29,000 standard for initial applications, renewals, and indefinite leave to remain. Families who successfully applied for a spouse visa before April 11, 2024, will be assessed under the old £18,600 requirement.
