Recent Home Office developments confirm that from September 2023, those who hold Pre-Settled Status will automatically have their status extended before it lapses for a further two years, without the need to make an application. This will also apply for those who have not yet acquired Settled Status during the time that their Pre-Settled Status expires. This will ensure that no one loses their immigration status, especially those that are in vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
The automatic renewal will be reflected onto their digital online portal.
It is important to note that an automatic renewal is not an application for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. The Home Office has the intention to take active steps to automatically upgrade those with Pre-Settled Status to Settled Status once they meet the requirements. This process will begin in 2024 and will rely on using online records such as National Insurance through the Department for Work and Pension to confirm continuous UK residence and have Settled Status reflected following successful automated checks.
