The Independent yesterday reported that Free Movement will end for EU citizens on day-one of a No Deal Brexit. This is despite the fact that there are no clear plans being put in placed as well as the potential chaos and of people trapped in legal limbo. This measure is being brought forward by the new Home Secretary, Mrs Priti Patel.
At present, EU citizens are encouraged to register under the new EU Settlement Scheme to confirm their rights to live in the UK post-Brexit. Under the current arrangement, EU citizens will have a cooling period of 2 years post Brexit day to register however, this is subject to the government agreeing on a deal. The cooling period will not apply in an event of No-Deal Brexit.
To prevent any delay, we encourage EU citizens and dependents to register under the EU settlement scheme as soon as possible.
